We recently purchased a 1950s ranch but it really lacks curb appeal. The garage door is going to be replaced (what color should we choose, white?) and the exterior needs new paint (front door, shutters, trim, etc).
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Our house that was built in the 60's still has its orginal exterior paint colors, and we would like to give it a more updated look. Can you suggest some paint colors for the siding, trim and door that will match the bricks in our house. We have bee thinking about a taupe or beige color for the siding and maybe a cream color for the trim. We don't want the trim color to be too light, because it would show too much dirt, since we live in a forest.
So my local CertaPro is ready to paint soon and I am so indecisive about the paint color. Our house right now is a 1.5 story Cape Codwith white painted brick and black shutters, blah. I want to do something warm but nothing too bold as our neighborhood in southwestern Virginia is very simple Cape Cod houses. Some houses are painted but mostly are exposed brick. So, I tried some colors and painted samples on the front of my house. I really like the Believable Buff color. What I think they are going to do is paint the whole house this color and then I am going to paint the shutters and accent around the front door. So, do you like this buff color and also what accent color do you think for the shutters, door trim and door? I'm thinking a deep wine-ish color or maybe a hunter green? Let me know soon they are coming next week!
Thanks!!

And, the plants have been removed in the front and I am going to do low landscaping. Probably some simple shrubs that will remain small about sill height, like, to cover the water spicket right there but no higher.
Hi Shannon,
Would you please help us on our exterior paint? This is a 70's ranch in New England, with slate roof, and big windows both front and back. The siding is cedar split shake (the kind that dosn't look so straight-lined). Greenish copper gutter. There are stones on the front porch of the house, and red bricks at the around the garage door. The front door is currently pained as the same color as the house.
As you can see from the pictures there are lots of trees around it, and the current color makes whole house feels dark and low. We would like to paint it into some color that gives the house a clean, chic look and at the same time make the house "show" a little bit more. I have a feeling that changing the paint color will make a huge difference on how the house looks, and that's also why I'm desperately need help now…
Would you please help??
Thanks,
Grace

I will be painting an accounting office and we are removing wallpaper and will apply a new color scheme from the current 1990's taupe.
The office has normal common areas such as reception and hallways as well as individual offices. They have drop ceilings and hardwood floors, oak. All rooms have chair rail. We are looking for a 4 color scheme. The trim color will be some version of off white. The upper walls will all be the same throughout the entire office and will be a neutral color. We will use two accent colors below the chair rail. The individual offices will have a more reserved color and the common areas will have a bolder color. We are looking for conservative colors that will not become dated and that will look professional in this CPA office.
The chairs in the offices are a burgandy leather. The exterior of the office building is brick colonial.

I hope you can help me. We are looking to repaint the exterior, including shutters, trim, doors. I do not have a picture of the back, but it is very nondescript - all the same paneling (no brick) with a bit of gray concrete block foundation showing at the bottoms. The garage door is the same brown as the gutters/soffits. The current color of the siding seems to more or less match the grout between the brick. The lightest colors the brick are sort of a light sand color, and sort of a pinky-beige. We have a very shaded lot and it all just looks very "blah" and brown to me as is. I would really like to try to brighten things up? I also wondered about utilizing some contrasting color on the woodwork in the "dead" areas that is now painted all the same color - like the chimney front and the side of the house, but I don't know if that would end up looking too busy or folksy. I don't think we would want to paint the brick itself. For the most part the surrounding houses are all varying shades of beige, gray, white, brown, some blues with brick, like ours - pretty sedate neighborhood. We will be looking to replace the roof eventually with a lighter color, maybe gray - it is currently a faded brown, a bit lighter than the gutters. This is really daunting - any advice would be appreciated!
Shannon,
Thanks in advance for your help. We purchased this tri-level home that has a fabulous floorplan and is in a great location. It faces west and gets very hot in the Midwest afternoon sun. In our opinion, it lacks curb appeal and looks very chopped up. In fact, it appears to be a house sitting on top of a house. We would very much like to give the house some unity and curb appeal, but are unsure how to accomplish this. My husband will have to walk on our older cedar roof to paint the upper sections of the home and runs the risk of breaking the shingles. He says we need to get the colors right the first time to avoid having to repaint the upper portion. No pressure:)
We very much like the look of a taupe house with very dark (brown, black, eggplant) shutters and front door with creamy white trim. But, we are very much restricted in our selection by the color of our brick which is very orange. It seems that all of the samples that we put on the home turn either gold or green. The brick seems to be our issue and we are open to either keeping it or painting it. My husband definitely prefers neutral colors on a home and doesn't usually like greens, blues, yellows or oranges. He isn't adverse to gray tones, but tends to select warmer tones with more brown.
I tried to add photos but the add images link didn't work on my computer. Our home pictures are in Flickr at this link http://www.flickr.com/photos/54188897@N07/
Once again, thanks for your help.

Recently purchased this home. The front seems colorless to me. Front
is facing North, garage faces west. Would like to get your opinion on
color possibilities. I have read through this forum and many others and
am overwhelmed. The front door I would like to be a focal point. Current shutters are a
greyish biege. Front door is same color as shutters. White trim. Also, the garage, would you make it one
solid color or use the squares pattern and use two colors. Thank you so
much.

Hi Shannon,
we are currently considering the purchase of the house pictured in the following link: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2365-W-Davies-Ave-Littleton-CO-80120/13166381_zpid/#hdp-photo-lightbox
Would love the benefit of your ideas on exterior painting.
thanks,
Phil
