More modern color

My woodwork in my house is dark - all the doors, trim, and baseboards.  Its currently a buttery yellow with curtains that are a red floral with yellows, reds, and greens.  My sectional sofa is brown and my carpet is tan.

What color can I paint that won't make the room too dark, yet bring it up to date?  I have windows only on one side of the family room - its about 25×13.  Its been this color for about 6 or 7 years now and I'm ready to update!  I love the smokey blues, but I'm afraid it will make the room too dark.  Help!

We are putting this house on the market and I need exterior color suggestions. We do not want to paint the brick. The painters are coming on Tuesday and I am the worst at selecting colors. Thanks!

Hi Shannon,

I sent you an email last week, perhaps it did not come through. We had a terrible hail storm last spring and have just gotten our new roof. Now, I want to paint the whole exterior of the house. Currently there is tons of not so pretty orangish red brick. I would like to paint the brick, trim, shutters and maybe even the shingles? I like lighter color schemes - creams, taupes, pale yellows, greens and blues. We live on the golf course so much of the year have alot of green. Here are some pics - thanks so much for any ideas you might have!

Exterior Paint Ideas Needed

We recently moved into this house and need to replace several pieces of damaged siding and trim.  After the repairs, we plan new paint for all of the siding/ trim/ doors.  The current color for the siding is too yellow, I think.  I would love some color ideas before I head to Sherwin Williams and have an anxiety attack at the color board.  (Landscaping is on the agenda too - already removed the ivy from the brick and probably going to remove the Japanese maple in front.)

Thanks for the ideas!

Exterior Paint Choices

We recently had a huge hailstorm and as part of that process, just installed a new roof. I would now like to paint the exterior of the house. I want to paint everything - brick, shingles, trim, shutters, door. I really like the like of painted brick, especially when it looks "chipped" or kind of sand-blasted / acid washed? But, I am not sure how this look is achieved. For now, we will just replace any damaged shingles and then paint. I like lighter colors - cream for the main parts of the house and maybe a distressed looking blue shade on shutters and door? I also like taupes and pale yellows. Our house backs up to the golf course. I would defer to you on this and your responses on this site are wonderful. Any input you could provide would be appreciated. Thank you!

 Hi Shannon,

We just found this site and like your advice a lot. We are about to move to a larger house and are preparing the one pictured above for resale or rental. It's on a hillside overlooking the Pacific ocean in a nice neighborhood near Vancouver, Canada.. We painted it "Pueblo" (pink) because the house has a Mediterranean feel - however that color is not to everyone's taste and now it badly needs repainting. Since we are painting to appeal to an unknown buyer or upmarket renter, we'd like to go with  local tastes which are sophisticated and conservative. We worked with a Benjamin Moore color consultant to get a very nice effect on the interior several years ago. We used their warm "Hillsborough beige" for the open concept living-dining-kitchen area. It looks great. She recommended the same color on the outside with white trim. What do you think? Also need to paint the main entrance door which is on the side of the house - it's just recessed into the stucco wall - no porch or other ornamentation. The sides of the house are simple rancher style with a picture window on the ocean side.

Thanks!

I live in a townhome and recently decided to change colors in entryway and all first floor which is almost an open space, kitchen, dining and living. I painted the kitchen and the wall leading to the dining room area in Behr's Tibetian Orange color which I like because it's vibrant and compliments the maple cabinets and white trimming. I also painted the entryway and stairway leading up to the dining living room area SW Totally Tan, which I also liked. My challenge is the living/dining room combo. I painted the living room in SW Tatami Tan and dining room was painted Behr's Cork color, I am not sure if I want to keep these colors, or change one of them or paint the whole area one color and which? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am atatching some pictures to get a better idea. Thanks.

exteriot color help, fast!

We are looking to update the color of our house from white painted brick to something nuetral but warm and to fit into our neighborhood. We live in southwestern Virginia and our neighborhood is mostly exposed brick with a few other painted brick houses, our neighbors are yellow and across from us is a gray. I really liked Believable Buff for the whole house and wanted to see what you thought and also what color for accent, shutters and door trim and door. I was thinking about a deep wine-ish color or maybe a hunter green, open for ideas! We are also going to be landscaping the front with low lying simple shrubs to showcase more of the house. The painters are coming next week so I just need help with the main color (BB) for right now.
Thanks!!

What Color Trim ?

Hi There,

What Windor and Door Trim Color do you suggest on a Cream / Off-White Hosue w/ a Maroon / Burgandy Metal Roof?

The house is a 3 bed 80's Contemporary in the mountains of Colorado

Right now it has a dark brown Trim and it looks too dated and I can't seem to figure out what color would look best..

Pleae help !!!

Nate and Angela

Hello!
I need help with paint colors please! We just bought this home and I just can't decide what would look good for the trim, shutters and the garage door. The current colors aren't terrible, they just seem to make the house look a bit dark. It is a ranch style built in the 80s. When I think about what I like, I seem to be drawn to white houses with black shutters and either red or black doors (cape cod or colonial type homes). Obviously this is not either one of those, but I think with some help from you (thank you!!) I can make our new house really pop! Also, the fence will be changed later on to either white vinyl or a nice medium tone wood.
Thank you, I appreciate your help so much! : )
