Our house is not built yet, but this first image is a picture of a house that has the same front as our house will have and it was built by our builder.  I wanted to give an idea of what we are working with.  The next couple of pictures are also built by our builder and are examples of color schemes that I like.

So far I know that I like the color of the shutters in the next two pictures (not sure if the color is dark dark blue or black?)

In this picture(below) I like the brick, I like the color of the shutters, the front door color, but I cant decide if I like the stucco color?  I am undecided as to whether it is a shade too dark.

In this picture I again like the brick, and shutter color.  I do not like the stucco color.  I think that it is too light and I do not like the faux finish that they did.  Just not my preference.  Also, one thing that I cant stand is the window trim color that is lighter than the stucco.  I like it to be either darker than or the same as the stucco. Or, as long as it doesnt look too white compared to the stucco.

So, now that you have seen a couple of pictures I am hoping to get advice on the color of the stucco and accent color around the windows and other trim that might look good.  Do you think that a color somewhere inbetween the two stucco colors here would be good?  what are your thoughts?

I would love some color recommendations!!!  '

Thanks a bunch:)

Hello,

We are building a house right now.  I really really need help deciding on interior paint colors.  I know that I like grays, but grays that are not too dark or too purple.  Also, my LEAST favorite green is sage. So any gray that would sometimes appear sage greeny is not for me.  I like some paint colors that I might descirbe as beachy, like a light blue-green-gray.  I would like for the accent colors to really pop if I use gray.  I will be accenting with yellows (possibly a yellow couch/or a linen that is light gray), greens (chartreuse, apple green), turquoise, auqa and baby blue.  I have some gourd lamps that are a aqua or turquoise color.  Here are some pictures of the model home that is the same layout as our house (below).  That is the furniture that they use to stage it.  All of the colors they use are Sherwin Williams.  Actually, the colors throughout the home are on the strip with Tony Taupe and Accessible Beige.

Open floor plan.   I just realized that this is the only picture that I have of the wood floors.  They are pretty dark! I love them.

This pic (above) gives a closeup of the granite and the backsplash that I will have.   As far as the kitchen goes, I decided to paint the cabinets the same color as the trim, or a similar color instead of stain.

This is the fireplace showing the granite tiles that will be used.  We have different colors of granite tile that we can use.  Again in the model home.  The trim used in this house is a bit lighter than I had in mind.

Next house, just like ours again.  It is not complete yet, but it shows the built-ins that we will have in the living room.  The wall colors used are too beige for me.  I think this one was Accessible Beige.  There was no power yet, so hard to tell exactly.

image (above) another view of the living room overlooking the back yard.  The dark hardwood floor not yet installed.

Again, a picture of the kitchen in this unfinished house.  Ours is this exact model.  I will not be staining the cabinets.  I want to paint them like the trim or a similar creamy color that is not too yellow.  Maybe like a architectural cream or something.  Also, we have options for the tile that have more stone colors, some more gray and so on.

Whew…….  I hope I have not already overloaded you with pictures……..

Just to give you an idea of the kinds of things and colors that I like to decorate with.  Here are some pictures that are in my inspirational picture file:   (some pics I just like the wall color and in some I like the colors used to decorate with)

I love this picture from Living Etc. mag.  What I like about it is the yellow English roll arm sofa, the simple geometric rug, and kinda like the wall color.  Not sure if it is too light for me.  I am getting a sofa in either a yellow similar to this(not as bright as this one), or one that is a gray linen color that I can accent all kinds of fun pillows on.

This pic (above) is something I like also.  I beieve this color is Parma Gray from farrow and ball.  I have a lamp the same color as this one.  I think something very similar to the lightness of this color but the more blue or aqua or beach water version of this color would be cool too.   Does that make sense?  I also like the color of the trim next to the paint.

This is just another image using what I think of as fun color.   I am not sure but it seems like the paint color is a very light blue with a little gray.

I like the fun use of colors in this picture.  Just to give you more of an idea of what I like.  I could cover my two chairs in my living room in this linen color used here or this color for the sofa.

I love love the greens and blues used in this pic.

Back to gray wall colors.  I think something like this in the 2 pictures of the living room above.  It is not too dark and looks good against the yellow arrangement in the corner.  Of course, in this second pic the gray looks really light.  The color is Dolphin fin by Behr.

And here, I like the color of the wall and the stencil used.  I would only use this in our bathrooms and maybe the master bedroom.  Too dark for the main area.

I like that the color of the kitchen cabinets in this picture are not stark white.  The feel warm and are along the lines of what I am wanting.  Same thing in the kitchen below.

I get to pick:    (all from Sherwin Williams)

- 2 wall colors

- 1 trim color

- need to check if I can get a different trim color for the kitchen cabinets if necessary

- one ceiling color

We can pick more colors, but our builder will charge us extra :(

 - I have a dark wood coffee table that looks like this pic below.

Finally, I am at the end here.  Sorry, I know that this is a really long message.

I would love to get your suggestions for paint colors, trim, and if you think a certain color of tile different from the one pictured would be better and so on.

Thanks sooooooooo much!!!'

You gave me such great ideas for the outside of our home, I figured I'd get some help on the inside.  My husband and I just bought our first home and the interior is pretty much all white.  I love color and would like to have lots in our new house… but I'm horrible at picking out and matching.  Also, there's a lot of wood trim everywhere and I don't want to clash with that.. and I don't think I want to paint that much trim either.  Also, all the doors are the same stained wood color as the trim.  I would love any suggestions.

This is the entry way which goes right into the 2 story greatroom.  You can also see the loft on the second floor.

This is the greatroom.  The entry would be to the right of this picture and the breakfast nook and kitchen are behind the photographer.  We will be taking down the wall that separates the great room from the breakfast nook, but the breakfast nook does not have the cathedral ceiling.

This is the breakfast nook.  There's a wall to the right of this picture which is the one we're taking down.  The kitchen is to the left.

Here's the kitchen.

Thanks for all your help!!!

Hi,I've been struggling for some time now on what color to paint the bedroom. I bought window treatments a couple years ago that didn't really go with the current wall color. I was fine with that because I knew at some point, I wanted to paint the walls.  I just bought some new bed linens and I think they are ok with the window treatments (but not sure).  Ideally, I'm looking for a paint color that will bring the bedding and windows together. The pictures attached show the a corner of the bedroom with the bedding, current wall color (with a few test colors that I don't like), furniture and windows.  The windows and furniture are staying. I can change the bedding if I have too.

Any advice you have would be great.

We are in the midst of buying a new house (to us, it was built in 1988) and the front need some TLC. Right now it is very dark and not very inviting. We love colour and would like to update the look. The windows are all new and aluminum to their trim will stay white most likely but we would like suggestions for the garage doors, the shutters and the front door.

Exterior Paint Color Help

Hi Shannon,

We desperately need to repaint the outside of our house however I'm totally stumped when it comes to choosing colors.  Right now our house just looks so plain and boring to me.  I'd love to create a more visually appealing color scheme.  We have several huge trees in our front yard so the house gets a ton of shade.  Since there isn't alot of sunlight I'm thinking the paint colors shouldn't be too dark.  We recently replaced the storm door and since you can actually see our front door now I'd love to paint it a bright red.  Please don't look at the landscaping (or lack thereof).  We're currently working on updating and adding to the lanscape.

I would love to hear what paint colors you'd recommend.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks!

Hi, we are hoping you can help us pick the perfect colors for our ranch style house.  It is so hard to find the perfect color, and we would rather only have to paint once.  I am known for changing colors quite a few times before being satisfied with the color choice….We are thinking something pretty neutral. but not at all boring or washed out looking, and of course we are open to other ideas!   We like the Florida style look even though we are in Virginia. Our house has small windows in the front, but huge windows line the back.  There are also some little details in the front entry area that we are not sure what to do with. There are also little brick ledges under each window in the front that  maybe could be an accent?  We also want to paint the concrete that goes down into the window wells on the front of the house because it is very dirty.  As the pictures show- there is a garage and a carport that of course will need to be painted. And we are planning to do away with a lot of the lancscape in the front.  Any help is very much appreciated!

We are in the midst of purchasing a new house and the outside needs some TLC. The brick is very dark and so are the shingles and the previous owners have painted everything to match. The windows are all new so they will likely stay white since the metal is that colour. Can you suggest garage door, shutter, and front door colours that will make the house more inviting please?

Wrong Color…Please Help!

We recently built our house and the main living area color is not working for me as it's too much of a creamy "lemony" color.  I am also not sure how to play up the fireplace, if I should paint the kitchen a pop of color, how to paint the wainscoating and what to do with the ceiling.  We still have interior finishes to do such as the fireplace, built-ins, drapes, furniture and decor.  I would like something that will work well with accent pieces in the colors I love of browns, brighter greens and aquas.

We have used Benjamin Moore paints throughout the rest of the house to include:

Master:  Misted Green           Master Bath: Gray Cashmere           Boys Room:  Middlebury Brown

Kids Bath:  Dill Pickle            Girls Room:  Aqua (custom color)

I would forever appreciate your suggestions!
